Select VMware Workstation Pro 17.0 for Windows, then choose version 17.5.2 or higher. Agree to the terms and conditions to download the installer for the selected version.

Note

The download button will only become active after you agree to the terms and conditions.

☐ I agree to the Terms and Conditions

You must click the blue "Terms and Conditions" link to review them before the "I agree" checkbox can be selected.

Run the downloaded installer file in your Windows environment.

On the first screen of the installer, click Next.

Accept the End-User License Agreement and click Next.

The Compatible Setup step will appear if your Windows environment has Hyper-V or Device/Credential Guard enabled. Do not check the option provided in this step. Click Next.

Important

You must disable all Hyper-V features in Windows and reinstall VMware Workstation Pro to follow this manual correctly if:

  • You installed it with the option checked in the Compatible Setup step.
  • You installed it without checking the option, but VMware is not functioning correctly.

In the Custom Setup step, check the Add VMware Workstation console tools into system PATH option and click Next.

The options in the User Experience Settings and Shortcuts steps can be configured as needed. These options do not affect the use of FilingBox MEGA.

In the final step, click Install to begin the automated installation process.

When the installation is complete, click Finish.

Run VMware Workstation Pro

Launch Workstation Pro from your Windows desktop or Start Menu.

Running the FilingBox MEGA server

Download the virtual machine

Download the FilingBox MEGA Server Virtual Machine from the link below to a location of your choice and unzip the file.

Add the virtual machine

In VMware Workstation Pro, go to the File menu and select Open.

Navigate to the unzipped FilingBox MEGA Virtual Machine folder and open the FilingBox MEGA2 Server.vmx file. The Virtual Machine will be added to the Library panel on the left.

Clone the virtual machine

In the Library panel, right-click on the FilingBox MEGA Server and select Manage > Clone to start the Clone Virtual Machine Wizard.

On the first screen of the wizard, click Next.

In the Clone Source step, select The current state in the virtual machine and click Next.

In the Clone Type step, select Create a full clone and click Next.

In the Name of the New Virtual Machine step, set a name and location for the new virtual machine, then click Finish.

Once the cloning is complete, click Close to exit the wizard.

Run the virtual machine

Select the cloned FilingBox MEGA Server Virtual Machine, then click Power on this virtual machine in the right-hand panel to start it.

Important

Before running the virtual machine, check the Devices section to ensure the Network Adapter is set to Bridged (Automatic). If it's set to a different value, you must clone the original virtual machine again.

Configure and verify service status

When the login prompt appears in the Virtual Machine's terminal screen, log in with the following credentials:

Localhost login: root
Password: fbmegavm

After logging in as root, execute the following command:

/root/config_mega.sh

The configuration will complete shortly. If the output for Active shows active (running), the FilingBox MEGA server is running correctly.

Check the server IP address

When the login prompt appears in the Virtual Machine's terminal screen, log in with the following credentials:

Localhost login: root
Password: fbmegavm

After logging in as root, execute the following command:

ifconfig

In the output, the inet value for the ens160 interface is the automatically assigned IP address of your FilingBox MEGA server.

Configuring for access from other PCs

Check the virtual machine network adapter

Before starting the Virtual Machine, ensure the Network Adapter in the Devices section is set to Bridged (Automatic).

Important

If it is set to a different value, clone the original virtual machine again.

If the original's Network Adapter value has also been changed, you must re-download the original VM.

Confirm access via a web browser

On the PC running VMware Workstation Pro or another PC on the same network, open a web browser and navigate to https://<filingbox-mega-server-ip-address>.

Important

You must include https:// before the IP address.

If your browser displays a privacy warning (e.g., "Your connection is not private"), follow the prompts to ignore the warning and proceed to the site.

If the license key registration screen appears, the connection has been established successfully.
